A Taste of The Inner Beloved: The Heart’s Journey to Divine Unity

“Be prepared for a thrilling and very deep dive into the heart of Divine Love. A. H. Almaas serves as a masterful guide into the very heart of existence through the call of the inner Beloved.
—Adyashanti, author of Emptiness Dancing

In The Inner Beloved, A. H. Almaas (pen name for Hameed Ali) guides us on a transformative journey of the heart. Released at this time of year when we celebrate our earthly beloveds – lovers, friends, family – the journey described in this book provides a guide to those of us who are drawn deeper. Our hearts feel pulled to something more, something unknown and more satisfying. In The Inner Beloved, Hameed decodes this beckoning and teaches us how to follow the heart’s compass to inner treasure – the true source of all love and fulfillment.

Here’s a brief introduction to this brand new book (released today) from long time Diamond Approach teacher Byron Brown:

Fundamental to the Diamond Approach is the recognition that ultimate reality, the underlying ground of being, is the deepest truth of what we are. We are but a form manifesting out of it, and so the human soul expresses the depth, richness, and ultimate nature of that ground. As such, the pursuit of what is true in a person’s experience cannot help but lead eventually to the ultimate mystery of our innermost nature.

This guiding principle of loving the truth for its own sake is central to the practice of inquiry, the core method of the Diamond Approach. By discerning what is true in our own experience, we invite our beingness—our true nature—to reveal itself. Often this involves going through many layers of belief and conditioning that obscure this underlying truth. There is no rush or pressure to get to the bottom of things but rather a simple willingness to allow and be with the truth in any given moment. We learn to trust that if we can be open, nonjudgmental, and nonreactive, the immediate truth—whether it manifests as emotion, thought, or sensation—will reveal something deeper that has been hidden. As we inquire in this way, ever deeper truths will continue to be revealed.

The guidance for this exploration and discovery of our personal truth lies in our heart. The mind may discriminate our experience, but it can only speculate and reason, without knowing directly what is real. The heart, on the other hand, listens, tastes, and knows what is true by being one with the experience, staying closely in touch with and touched by life. As such, the personal, spiritual journey of inner realization relies on the heart knowing what is real and following its guidance.

The heart relates to experience through feeling, and when it senses the truth, it is naturally drawn to it. To describe this experience of attraction in our soul, we use words like “wishing,” “wanting,” “longing,” “desiring,” and most basically, “loving.” Love is a force that connects one soul with another, the heart with what moves it, and even the absolute source or mystery with what it has manifested. It is this profound force of love in our heart that drives our inner journey by drawing us deeper as we seek what is most true in our nature. True nature is drawing us through love. Without recognizing it, we are being drawn toward home, where we will feel undivided, whole, contented, and fulfilled because we will know ourself in our deepest nature.

The search for the inner Beloved is the purest expression of this journey toward home. It is motivated by the longing to be with our inner truth and become an authentic expression of it. Before we recognize this desire, our inner search is generally driven by a feeling of discontent and dissatisfaction with our life and what we know. Even as we love many specifics in our life, including lovers, friends, and family, we do not feel content. This is only natural when the heart does not yet know its deepest truth. Once we have fully recognized this, the path of the heart is to follow the desire for what will truly satisfy it, without needing to know what that is—all we know is that we have not yet found it. Missing what we love may bring sadness and heartache and at times a deep emptiness. Along the way, we may attempt to soothe the ache or fill the void by discovering new forms, people, and qualities to love. Whatever joy they bring does not last, however, and the search continues.

This is the journey that this book takes us on, as we follow our heart toward the deepest mystery of existence, recognizing that nothing else will satisfy our profound longing for the truth of what we are. It involves learning to listen to the heart—listening to that inner sensitivity that lets us know whether we are nearer what we seek or farther away. We can do this without needing to know or name what it is that we seek or why things unfold in ways we cannot comprehend—the inner Beloved is by its nature an unfathomable mystery that resists labels and concepts, names and images. We simply learn to be loyal to the truth compass we each carry in our heart. At times we may settle for some immediate truth or love object, but loyalty to our inner truth means always coming back to what the heart truly loves.

This is not to deny that our mind can be of service on this journey. The mind can help us to discern elements of our experience as they arise, making connections and revealing meaning. However, it cannot be the means by which we set goals, define outcomes, or make plans for how to proceed on this inner journey. The best the mind can do is help us clarify what prevents us coming nearer to the mysterious Beloved. And at some point, the mind must surrender completely to the endless mystery, as the path will take us beyond all concepts, words, and efforts to understand.

H. Almaas offers all spiritual seekers the necessary wisdom to support this path of the heart. He describes all the stages of this journey in great detail, presenting insights and revelations that can fuel our personal process and invite us to stay the course. This challenging journey is not for the faint of heart, but by defining the territory so clearly, Almaas encourages us to not give up on what our heart loves most. May this book be a companion for your heart in pursuing its deepest desire for true contentment and uniting with the inner Beloved.

Journey of Spiritual Love Book Series

From A. H. Almaas

This is the third and final volume of this series on love. In
the first two volumes I discussed how spiritual love manifests
in the everyday personal sphere, and then how it can take us
into the boundless dimension of Divine Love. Those books paved
the way for this one and prepared the ground for its theme—the
central journey of the heart. This journey is not simply about
love; it is actually more about the way of the heart, the path that
leads to the realization of the mystery that many teachings regard
as the ultimate nature of everything and the source of all that we
experience.
