We all carry a lot of judgements and even hatred about our bodies. We make demands of it and have high expectations of what it should be doing for us.
But the continual demands we make of our bodies, along with the hurts they have absorbed throughout our lives, often result in our coming to view the body as merely an object, something separate from who we really are and a “thing” to be managed. Over time, this view can cause us to close down and be cut off from our bodies and the living expression of wholeness that we are.
In Love & Our Body, part three of the Spiritual Wisdom of the Body series, Anne will show us how loving our body is what helps it to reopen; to its nature and to being natural, real, and relaxed in our daily lives.
In this two-day exploration, we will come to appreciate how our body has worked to serve us in every situation of our life, the ways we have shut down to and the ways we can open again to what our body needs, and how to reconnect with our body in ways that bring more respect, care, and love for this physical dimension of our being.
“The love and care that we show our body teaches our body that it’s safe to show itself, that it’s safe to be itself, that it’s safe to be real.”
-Anne Laney, Diamond Approach Teacher
Recognize that the body itself is a living consciousness, an expression of our true nature, which is inherently loving
Start to acknowledge what we hate about our body, where that comes from and what that's serving, so we can reconnect with a more loving perspective of our body
Include our body in our spiritual journey, inviting it to release untruths and structures formed as children so we can fully integrate presence in the body we are today
Understand that feeling love in our flesh is a great support for being part of this physical world right now, especially amid all the global challenges we are facing
A recording of the online workshop including teachings, guided meditations, and interactive exercises
Recorded Q&C sessions where you will learn from the teachers and others in the program
Anne Laney has been a Diamond Approach teacher since 2002. She leads groups in Colorado, Australia, and Boston, works with individual students and trains teachers in the Ridhwan School. She has a particular interest in including the body in our inquiry process in a way that invites our spiritual maturity to express all its qualities through our physicality, as well as our mind and heart.
This course is the third part of the 5-part online teaching series Spiritual Wisdom of the Body. Each course in this series may be purchased individually, or you can register for the full series for a combined discount.
“Ridhwan” is a Sufi word. It means “satisfied and satisfying.” Our school, home to more than 4,000 students across the globe, has the potential to both help you to be fulfilled and to help others be fulfilled. Students learn to ground, sensitize, recognize, and trust the inherent guidance of Being.
The Diamond Approach is the core teaching of the Ridhwan School, a spiritual path that approaches our ordinary experiences, emotions, and sensations in a friendly way of understanding. This radical acceptance of our situation allows something to come through that puts us in touch with our spirituality.
In the Diamond Approach, everything we experience is utilized as a doorway to our spiritual nature. Rather than negating or seeking to transcend parts of our humanness that are considered barriers to realization, we learn to approach each aspect of our physical, emotional, and mental experience with acceptance and open curiosity to discover its truth. We do meditation and other exercises, but the main method is Diamond Inquiry™: non-judgment of what we’re experiencing, which brings crisp clarity into one’s own truth.
