How does your body feel about you?
Most of us, at times, have issues or judgments about our bodies. We spend much of our lives in our heads looking down at or into our bodies as an object and making decisions about them all the time – often treating them as little more than a machine of nuts and bolts.
Have you ever paused, suspended judgment, and wondered how the body sees you – that you up there in its head that much of the time seems removed from the life of the body?
What would it say? “You’re misguided, I often don’t feel seen, understood, or listened to.” “Thank you for your love and care.” “You get me.” “We are one and the same.” “Quit feeding me that crap!”
This can sound very familiar, like the way our parents treated us. After all, our parents related to us mostly as a body. Have you ever pondered the similarity between your treatment of your body and how your parents treated you?
What do you want from your body?
This question points to the main issue – YOU/BODY split. But, the issue, problem, and conundrum is more subtle than this because what we are is deeper than the body, but includes the body AND the YOU which you believe you are for much of your life is not what you really are, but an idea running amok.
Do you love the body?
“It is not the body that you love, it is Life — perceiving, feeling, thinking, doing, loving, striving, creating. It is that Life you love, which is you, which is all. Realize it in its totality, beyond all divisions and limitations, and all your desires will merge in it.” ~ Nisargadatta
Is there separation between love for the body, love from the body, and love as the body?
Love came
And became like blood in my body.
It rushed through my veins and encircled my heart.
Everywhere I looked, I saw one thing..
Love’s name written on my limbs,
on my left palm, on my forehead,
on the back of my neck, on my right big toe…
Oh, my friend, all that you see of me is just a shell,
and the rest belongs to love. – Rumi
