For the very first time, the Ridhwan School will be offering a deeper level of the Diamond Approach teaching online. “Lightness of Being” is a six-part series that will run over six weekends between February and August 2021. It will explore the lataif (plural of latifa), those subtle qualities of our being that invite us to experience the pure, unshakable truth of what we are, which helps dispel the belief that we are individuals who are somehow separate from our spirit.
Each latifa takes us beyond our ordinary cognitive world into the realm of lived, embodied experience of subtler qualities, allowing us to touch into our inner seeing, inner hearing, even our inner tasting. This in turn makes our experiences richer and fuller, allowing the human spirit to thrive and expand.
Though the lataif are exquisitely subtle, they are nevertheless relatively easy to access and can be experienced in both dual and non-dual states of being. For this reason, “Lightness of Being” is both an excellent introduction to the Diamond Approach – as well as an opportunity for seasoned spiritual seekers to sink more deeply into each of the qualities and to taste the depth this path has to offer.
The series will also be required for all students who enroll in our first-ever Diamond Approach Online group, expected to begin meeting in Fall 2021. Since COVID-19 began, we moved all current in-person groups online for the sake of safety. The kinds of experiences that emerged from this transition have been inspiring, so we feel there is real possibility for offering an ongoing group in this format.
At the heart of this offering is our intention to develop an international group of committed students from many cultures and backgrounds who can continue with the group for some time. This is a novel opportunity for those who want to engage with this path in an ongoing way but are unable to participate in our usual, preferred in-person style. This group is for new students only.
In this introduction, we will familiarize ourselves with the lataif and talk about how they can support us in living a harmonious life. We will also discuss how it is more important than ever to connect with these qualities in polarized, conflictual times like the one we are experiencing at this moment on the planet.
It is true that the spiritual journey is not for the faint of heart. It requires steadfastness, discipline, and courage. But the yellow latifa is what also makes it fun. It is the sunny expression of the heart.
The essence of the red latifa is a quality needed on the inward journey in order to challenge our assumptions and patterns around being big, vibrant, and alive. It stokes our interest and our vigorous engagement with the world, making us feel courageous and daring, and helping us come truly and resplendently into our own.
What most of us think of as our free will is actually a way of controlling—or trying to control—what is going to happen. The way the Diamond Approach sees will is very different: as something that is aligned with the harmonious unfoldment of reality.
Explore the bridge to that eternally still and peaceful place: The black latifa. It’s not just the absence of fear, self-doubt, animosity, turmoil, and the cacophony of our human existence. It is a living presence of silence that is our birthright and an aspect of our spiritual nature.
Our biggest hurdle to understanding the mysteries of the heart is our pain. By working with the green latifa, we come to appreciate our pain for the portal that it is. If we follow the crumbs of our experience, we can start to discover the deep core of our heart.
“Ridhwan” is a Sufi word. It means “satisfied and satisfying.” Our school, home to more than 4,000 students across the globe, has the potential to both help you to be fulfilled and to help others be fulfilled. Students learn to ground, sensitize, recognize, and trust the inherent guidance of Being.
The Diamond Approach is the core teaching of the Ridhwan School, a spiritual path that approaches our ordinary experiences, emotions, and sensations in a friendly way of understanding. This radical acceptance of our situation allows something to come through that puts us in touch with our spirituality.
In the Diamond Approach, everything we experience is utilized as a doorway to our spiritual nature. Rather than negating or seeking to transcend parts of our humanness that are considered barriers to realization, we learn to approach each aspect of our physical, emotional, and mental experience with acceptance and open curiosity to discover its truth. We do meditation and other exercises, but the main method is Diamond Inquiry™: non-judgment of what we’re experiencing, which brings crisp clarity into one’s own truth.
When you register for the series, you’ll receive a recording of all six online workshops where you’ll hear talks from Hameed, Karen, Zarina, and Christof, participate in guided meditations and experiential exercises, and learn from other participants in the Question & Comments portions.
These sessions are recordings of an online workshop series.
